Stuart Mclean's Dave Cooks the Turkey

While listening to Stuart McLean's short story "Dave cooks the Turkey", I realized that I related to much of it. Stuart McLean does a great job allowing people to relate to it. He made a typical situation into something people can laugh and joke about it. With that said, I was laughing throughout most of the parts, not knowing that most of the story was something that has happened to myself and or families/friends. After reading it, I than realized that there are many examples in this story, that I've seen before. When Dave's wife, Morley says " I'm a train full of people who complain when you try to get them into a bed and fight when you try to get them out of one", I laughed because it reminded me of my mother, and how she has to tell my brother and I repeatedly that we have to go to bed and the next morning she's trying to get us up. I thought it was funny, because it happens all the time in my household. Another example I was able to relate to was at the end when Dave says " Morley could you come here, [Dave] said softly. There's something I have to tell you". I was able to relate to it, because there are many times when I know I'm in trouble and I have to admit to my parents, I say it a soft tone and I wait till I have no other choice.I thought it was funny because even Dave in the end, had to tell his wife about the turkey and the trouble he went through, even though in the end he didn't help Morley with Christmas. My last example that I can relate to is when Morley compares Dave as the "guy in the bar car...pushing the button to ask for another drink."This reminds me of my dad, and how my mother most of the time has to prepare meals, the kids, and etc. While my dad sits at the couch waiting for her to be done, so he can get pampered. It's funny, because Dave is one of those typical husbands who thinks his only job is to ask for a "drink".
With many of the examples, Stuart McLean made a creative story out of a typical real life situations that most people can relate to, into a funny story that let us laugh about things, we didn't think it might of been funny before.

Mature Expository

Immaturity and Maturity. How does one see when they have hit maturity? What is to be mature?. why do people let go of there childish ways, in order to think more realistically.

In life, people go through many obstacles and learning experiences. Which changes people in many ways and show maturity. Maturity comes through time, and through many different aspects. When someone marks the beginning of maturity they have most likely gone through a rough time or have dealt which a situation that is bigger than they can deal with. In the book " Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom, the two main Characters go through a time in their life, where they both realize that they don't have all the answers to everything. Morrie, and Older man, who is terminally Ill, goes through maturity,by realizing his limited time on earth. He also shares his wiseness, to his former student Mitch, who realizes he doesn't know as much, as he thought he did.

In the novel, "Tuesdays with Morrie" A man in his thirties, is introduced. He is a successful, and married. Mitch has all the money he needs, and all the distraction from what is important in life. After years, of no contact with his old university professor, Morrie, Mitch figures out that Morrie is ill and he will die sooner, than he hoped. At first Mitch, neglects everything but work. Then he starts to have "meetings" with Morrie. Morrie Teaches Mitch, that it is OK, to have questions and that its OK. to seek for answers. The young man, hits maturity, when he realizes that there is more than just work. That life isn't all about wealth. Through Morrie's eyes, Mitch gets many answers to questions he never thought of until now. Instead of keeping all of his emotions bottled up, and keep them unknown, he starts to own up to it. He starts to understand that there are consequences to his actions. He starts to realize that love, isn't about him, it's about the other person. After Mitch learns that he a life he must live up to, he matures and grows into a person who isn't afraid to express himself, and think more than himself. Although Morrie, is dieing and something will be lost, for Mitch he is gaining something. Gaining Maturity.

With Mitch's young hope for life. Morrie, who has a better outlook on life, even though he can barely stand up. Shows Maturity through his illness and his experiences in life. Morrie, shares his experiences with Mitch, to direct him in a better lifestyle. At first when Morrie, found out he is will die from the cancer he had, he was devasted and confused. But, with Morrie's, attitude he turned it around. He didn't want to die miserable and scared. Instead, he wanted to carry on with his life and cherish every moment of it. He also decieded to share it with the ones he loved, including his never-forgotten student. Throughout his days of being Ill, he shares his life with Mitch. Morrie, shares his life story with Mitch, to show him that life is something we can or cannot control. Morrie begins maturity when he realizes that he is not going to be a miserable man. With Morrie's willingness to educate Mitch, He shows that he not only lived a good life but, is an ideal life, that he wants to share. Although, Morrie is a man who has seen much what life may bring, he still gained another persepective of life, leading him into more maturity.

Maturity comes with aging, growing, loving, and living. Thats what these two characters went through in order to gain maturity. Mitch a man who had lots of life to live, and Morrie a man who had a life which he lived. Through all the time they spent with each other, they both grew and matured in ways they didn't think would ever happened. They learned things about themselves that made them appreciate life and had an different outlook on it. With Mitch's questions, he realizes life isn't what he thought it was. With Morrie's planned death, he shows maturity with how he dealt with it. Although these two men who are different in age, and different in similarites. They have one thing in common, the both matured listening to each other.

College Application

Underneath the moon, sun, clouds beholds I. A person who acquires many dreamlike characteristics. I show no fear with anything, if it's fighting off ninjas,or running down the field chasing someone down with my field hockey stick. whatever I do, I do with absolute confidence. With my confidence to fight battles, I also can sense someones powers miles away. So I can fight off the evil criminals before they make their attack on society. I also have watched TV, movies and even listen to music. With that said, It is obvious I've bee successful beyond my years. Not only have I saved humanity, I also have read the encyclopedia, the dictionary and the thesaurus all in one day. I can even heat up cold pasta, make macaroni and cheese and pour drinks into a cup. Priests all over the world can't wait to meet me, because I can recite the Bible with no hesitations, which will help make their jobs easier.I also drive legally.People such as Britney Spears,Michael Jackson, and the Backstreet boys have all been in a car with me. As well as I even have a email address of my own, have a blog, and a face book account. My extraordinary ways have reached my a diploma with a "real" approval stamp.

Even though I am a true humanitarian at heart, and a well rounded smart individual, I still have to reach a post-secondary education.

I hope you consider my application, because I know i will make a lasting impression.

Al Capone

In my mind all I could think was about this one man who I saw today.I had known who he was, I walked right by him. I almost forgot to breath while taking those few steps to go past by him. I knew much about this big and greedy man.The character had many features that gave people the first impression that he was a frightening person. His brown smooth eyes showed nothing but absolute power and confidence. The fedora hat and the silky black tie showed that he had a sense a style. Although he used his power to be cruel, he was still mesmerizing. When he was furious his fuzzy eyebrows would scrunch up and make him look more evil than ever. But when he smiled, his eyes would dazzle and manipulate people to do whatever he wanted them to do. His hair on his face was as intricate as the thread on a sweater. The ears stuck out making him look kind of like a elf, as well as his nose was prodigious and acute. When he had walked by, I could smell the strong fragrance that he had on, and the strong scent of the smoke from the cigar. For some reason, even though I knew that his purpose in life wasn't any thing close to mine, and that he had a reputation of being a man with no heart. I knew right when I saw his superior figure that I was in love with a horrible creature.

Super Powers

Super Powers. Are super powers real or is it just created in someone's mind. The mind is attracted to artifical powers that make us unreal. As a child with many insecurities I've always wanted to be telepathic. Being Telepathic would allow myself to listen a person's thoughts and feelings. I could also change or manipulates one's mind , If I did not like them. the power to be telepathic would help me, to lose many of my insecurites. Being able to read someone's mind could let me know if I should stay away from them or not. I would also like to have that super power not to help myself but also to change peoples mind about doing something before they do it eg: commiting a crime, I could change their mind before doing it. I could help many people in the world, I could make everyone change their evil minds to a mind with loving thoughts.
Although my imagination has created a allusion for my ways to manipulate someones thoughts for my own good and for the sake of other, it is not possible. The realistic view is that you can not telepathically convince someone to change their mind. In my eyes, being telepathic or have any other superpower is just a idea made up in your head. Although we think "heros" are people who have incredible powers to prevent or stop awful thngs happening in the world. Those heros are in one's mind. The real heros are us. The people who have the abliltiy to go above and beyond with our own qualities and brain.
